Ribbon Cutting

“We’re really excited to be here in Newton,” said James River Equipment President Mark Romer, whose great grandfather started the business in 1926. “We want to make a good impression, because we know we thrive and grow by making a good impression on the community.”

“I am proud to welcome James River Equipment to our city,” Newton Mayor Anne P. Jordan

Development of James River Equipment’s new Newton facility was supported by a $60,000 Building Reuse Program grant from the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA). The grant assisted with the redevelopment of a 15,000-square-foot building, which was formerly occupied by Slimline Industries. James River Equipment created 12 jobs and invested $307,984 in the project. They have combined over 130 years of John Deere experience in the new Newton location to better serve the area. The RIA’s Building Reuse Program provides grants to local governments to renovate vacant buildings, renovate and/or expand buildings occupied by existing North Carolina companies, and renovate, expand or construct health care facilities that will lead to the creation of new jobs in specified counties.

“I am proud to welcome James River Equipment to our city,” Newton Mayor Anne P. Jordan said. “I thank them for choosing to open this new location here in Newton and for their investment in our future.”

The Newton location carries a full line of John Deere residential and commercial mowing equipment, as well as compact tractors and farming equipment. The staff are equipped to serve all of our customer's needs. The new location is conveniently located just off of Business 321.

When asked about this unique business development and partnership with the city of Newton Vice President of James River Equipment, Chris Johnson replied, "We were very excited about the cooperation with the town and their attendance at the ribbon cutting, really made us feel welcome."
